President’s Letter

Greetings,

Now that we are in the "Busy Season" I hope everyone is doing well. We have had a very good year of training so far at our last two quarterly meeting. We had a joint training at the IAMI yearly seminar in Panama Beach and a joint seminar with FACIU.

Thank you to all of our members for attending these meetings and special thanks to the Florida Agricultural Crimes Intelligence Unit (FACIU) and special thanks to the Polk County Sheriff's Office for the fantastic hospitality.

As for FMIU we need to get more participation and input. We are changing our meeting format to make it one day training with the board meeting the afternoon prior to the training day. I hope this will create a better opportunity to the members for attending. We realize the budgets of everyone across the state is going to be a challenge so with our meeting and training worked in to a day trip opportunity, hopefully the numbers will increase.

We will continue to have a network session the evening prior to the meeting day and try to secure a good hotel rates for those wanting or needing to stay overnight. Remember FMIU was created as a tool for the Marine Law Enforcement component of the state to network with each other as well as the marine insurance, surveyors, and private investigation groups. Information sharing is one of the best tools we have.

We are looking at our training and information formats and we welcome any input from our membership. If you have something you would like to see from a training perspective or from an information gathering status please let me know at jsuber@coj.net and we will try to work it in to the program.

FWC Lt. John Humphreys was very active in the creation of the new HOT SHEET and data base and has going out to members.  If you are not receiving your “Hot Sheet”, please contact John at john.jumphreys@myfwc.com  FMIU John has really done a fantastic job of getting this program going.

Last but definitely not least, hurricane season is here and the active part is yet to come so we want to remind all members to plan ahead and get your family and personal affairs taken care of so you can have peace of mind while you do your job for the citizens of the State of Florida.

The Waterborne Response Teams are up and ready to go with the chance of a deployment is just around the corner and being prepared personally as well as professionally is important.

Be Safe,

Jim
